My Bad
'I have been doing a lot of gardening in our backyard lately. Mostly, because I need to get it done before the weather gets too hot to be outside. The other reason was I couldn't motivate myself to look at my schoolwork. I am REALLY burned out on school! I guess this happens to most seniors in their final year. I only have about 5 classes to go, so it should be a breeze. But, I believe I saved the worst 5 classes for last!
My current class is Business Finance. The name of our textbook is "Fundamentals of Corporate Finance". I admit I am a geeky girl, but this class holds absolutely no interest for me. Imagine my shock when my first test score was 100! How could that happen? I even added up the points on my paper to be sure the teacher hadn't made a mistake in grading it. Then, since we were on "spring break" for the next weekend class, I ended up not looking at my textbook for 2 whole weeks. The first day back to class I realized I hadn't done my homework! I never do that. I was really embarrassed when I had to ask the teacher for an extra week to turn in my work. Guess I really 'checked out' for those two weeks. But my garden looks good.
I also found some new tv shows I like during those two weeks off! 'Adoption Stories' is one. It has really touching stories about parents who choose to adopt, and why. It shows them going through the adoption process and waiting - sometimes for years - to get their baby. It's amazing to see all the love they have for their baby even while they wait.
Another fun show is "Blood, Sweat, and Takeaways". It's about some British 20-somethings who love fast food. They all go together to the 3rd world countries that provide the food so cheaply to the fast food restaurants. They actually do the work done by the workers. The episode about 'prawn' farming was hilarious. Prawns are like big shrimp. They are grown in big 'mud ponds' basically. The walls around the mud ponds are rebuilt every couple of weeks since the ocean and rain water continually wash away the mud pond walls. Some of the prawn crop is lost when mud pond water goes over the mud walls.
The UK kids had to rebuild the mud walls by digging up blocks of mud and throwing them up onto the existing mud wall. It was a dirty job and they really didn't like it. I wouldn't either. It gave them (and me) a new appreciation for the way others live to support themselves, and hardly earn anything for all their hard work. I try to picture myself living in those conditions. I don't think I could do it. If you get a chance, take a look at these shows. It won't be a waste of your time, I promise!
